Whith the other subjects of the forum, I was affraid by the kind of "introduction" which you want to speak Kalis.

(dsl, après un an et demi d'abstinence (je parle de mon anglais bande de pervers) et a 3h30 du matin, je ne m'exprime pas avec brio dans le langage de Shakespeare.)

Hello Kalis,

To my friends I'm know as Hank. I'm seeker on the list from a nickname given to me in highschool. (He who seeks the answers, I was also called Sidd short for Siddhartha for the same reason)

My interests are varied from the outdoors (I live in the woods in a log cabin) to the indoors (few things beat the smell of breakfast and coffee on a crisp fall morning except maybe the scent of who you're serving breakfast to.)

At the risk of being cryptic, I work out in the open in a secret world.
I've been many things; writer, soldier, cook, mate, surfer, salesman, explorer but mostly human.

I'm also pleased to make your acquaintance, btw I like pink.

I'm too mortal to be divine. I'm going to run and scream all the way to the grave. Too many things to try, taste, and feel before they cover me with dirt.

If divinity is heavy, you look vital enough to handle it. So you go on being divine...it looks good on you.

cheers,
seeker

I was raised Catholic. I went to 13 years of Catholic school. In college one of my minors was Comparative Religions. I was a Muslim for a semester, a Jew, a witch, a buddhist etc.

I developed alot of questions about religion and the nature of God.

I sought answers in many places.

It's not that I don't believe in God. I just don't believe in Catholic (or most religions) dogma.

These days I'm more spiritual than I am religious. I worship at the altar of Nature in all its glory. Whether it be the open ocean or the deep woods, the spirit of life is there and I revel in it.

It's not so much I'm a atheist, it's more that I'm a spiritualist.

If God is out there, he/she/it knows were I am.

Pax vobiscum,
Seeker

One of the purposes of religion is to ease our own anxiety about what we don't know. (and we don't know alot!)

As we become more and more knowledgeable, gods and religion take less importance in our lives, until something happens that we can't deal with.
Again.

Personally I don't think a divine being(s) would have much interest in the scramblings of the inhabitants of this planet until we show that we can effect their existence on a grand scale. It's the nature of things. You never worry about something unless it profoundly effects you. If you can ignore it you do.

I don't know about all, but certainly many do. Most scientists are humble by how much we don't know. Science for all it's wonders does nothing to address spirituality.

A scientist try his best to explain thing with rationality.

God is, by essence, something that you believe in, without any proof of his existence.

MessageSujet: But most of the values that Scientists use are artificial   Introductions... EmptyLun 12 Sep à 16:54

If you really think about it. Most of the values that science uses are artificial, or man-made.

for example:

Time was invented by Mankind. It exists only because we make it exist.
Arithmetic, Mathematics, Geometry, and all systems of measure are invented by mankind.

Much of today's science is based on observations that are "generally" correct, but most Scientists will admit that there is a limit to our knowledge based on our personal limits. Yet there is SO much more to know.

Science hasn't proven or disproven the existence of God, gods etc.

There's no reason why a scientist shouldn't believe in god other than their own personal belief.

You're not totally right Seeker ^^

Time was not invented by manking, neither mathématics or the rest.
Mankind only found a way to measure/organise and use those things.

Maybe not really accurate due to the fact mankind don't already know all parameters. Like you said, there's SO much more to know Smile

You're right when you say that science has proven or disproven God/Gods. For me, finding proof of the existence of God(s) will reduce the Holy to something trivial... To believe in God, you need no proof but if I say that x²=-1 is true you will ask me to demonstrate it Razz

Faith is a matter of personnal convictions...so scientists may believe, of course.

Not a trace of doubt in my mind.
I’m in love, I’m a believer!
I couldn’t leave her if I tried."

Do you agree that Time and Science are man-made constructs? Time only exists because we say it does. We live our lives reinforcing an organized practice, like Catholics kneeling and standing in Mass.

Before we invented, discovered, established them numbers and time were non-existent.

We have faith that those values exist, just as we have faith (or not) in the existence in a god.

You believe in the number 1 because you've had the "value" of it drilled into your head from infancy. But until you learned to count the "ideal" of the number 1 didn't exist. Were you ignorant? Sure, you were an infant but in your reality numbers didn't exist, yet you existed.

To the faithful, God like the number 1 exists because they believe, because they have faith in the idea. But for no other reason than just that.

One of the great mysteries of our numerology system is that it, like God is infinite. You can divide 1 in half forever but you will never get to ZERO. Yet, 1 minus 1 is Zero. Again, you have to have faith that both values are true.

Einstein, in his attempt to explain the existence of everything, ran out of math to finish his theory. String theorist have picked up were he left off, but to many of them what they propose is a matter of believing, a matter of faith.

It has been written: "In the beginning, God created Man."
Perhaps it should have been written: "In the beginning, Man created God"

and it was good.
